This redesign was focused on improved readability, organization, and modernization. I moved away from 6 cramped columns to 4 more comfortable ones. Color coding, stronger headlines, simplified elements, and miscellaneous structural changes were used to improve organization.

The major change in style was done in effort to differentiate us from a competing newspaper. Since the Beacon is relatively young (created in 2005), it seemed appropriate to go more modern, and more than reasonable to rebrand (especially considering quality of the old nameplate).

Along with the newspaper, I redesigned the web site vbbeacon.com.
It was built using Squarespace, custom CSS, and a little JQuery.
